Sick of being ripped off just to make a phone call?
Mid-contract price rises, five-year lock-ins, exit fees and a bill you can't decode — UK small businesses are treated as a product to be financed and sold, not a customer to be served. How the extraction machine works, with the regulator's and the BBC's own findings — and the fixed-price, zero-markup membership we built to end it.
Be honest. You’re tired of it. Tired of the bill that creeps up every year for no reason anyone will explain. Tired of the “courtesy call” that’s really a sales call. Tired of the contract you needed a magnifying glass to read, that somehow didn’t say what the friendly salesman promised. Tired of being passed from one company to the next every time your provider gets bought, and tired of being treated like what you actually are to these people: not a customer, a product. Something to be bought, sold, financed, locked in, and squeezed.
You’re not imagining it. And you’re not the only one. So let’s stop pretending it isn’t happening, and look at exactly how the machine works — because once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
You’re not the customer. You’re the thing being sold.
Here’s the part nobody in this industry says out loud. Companies like the one you’re probably with don’t really make their money from your phone calls. They make it from you — from your contract, your monthly payment, your locked-in loyalty — which they bundle up with thousands of others and sell to a bigger company down the line. That single fact explains everything that’s ever annoyed you.
Why your bill keeps creeping up.Every pound they add to what you pay isn’t just a pound — it makes the whole business worth more when they sell it. Your “small annual increase” isn’t covering their costs. It’s fattening you up for market.
Why everything’s bundled into one fat, confusing bill. Handsets, licences, “premium features”, support tiers — each one is another thing to mark up and another thing to finance. A BBC News investigation in July 2025 found one Bradford business paying £54,432 to rent just five phones. Experts who reviewed these contracts found phones that could be bought outright for under £2,000 instead put on a £40,391, seven-year finance deal. One expert called basic services bundled into long finance agreements “almost laughable… the opposite of transparent”. (The company in that report denies mis-selling and says such cases are a tiny fraction of its customers — but the BBC heard from over 160 owners across around 20 firms using the same playbook.)
Why it’s always a five-year contract — never one. Because the salesperson is usually paid their commission upfront, against the whole term. Ofcom’s own documents describe exactly this: commission paid to the seller in advance, with a “clawback” if you dare leave early. The longer they tie you in, the bigger their payday — collected the day you sign, not earned over the years you stay. A telecoms expert told the BBC some seven-year deals appeared designed “solely to maximise finance revenue rather than meet a legitimate business need”. The contract length was never for you. It was for them.
Why you never hear from them again once you’ve signed. Because the job’s done. You’re locked in. You can’t leave. There’s nothing left to win from you, and every pound spent looking after you now is a pound off their margin. One business owner in that BBC report was quoted over £24,000 just to exit early — trapped, with a company that has no reason to fight to keep him because he was never going anywhere.
And it’s not just the small operators. In May 2024, Ofcom fined BT — including its EE and Plusnet brands — £2.8 million for failing to give 1.1 million customers clear, simple contract information before they signed up. The biggest name in the market, fined for the exact thing you suspected: people signing deals they were never properly shown.
This isn’t a few bad apples. It’s the business model. Following that BBC investigation, the Federation of Small Businesses was reported to be calling for a change in the law to protect small firms from exactly this — because, unlike you at home, your business gets no cooling-off period and far fewer protections. You signed on the spot, and the law largely lets them hold you to it.
And for what?
Step back and the whole thing is absurd. A phone call is two humans talking. It has been since 1876, and it has never been cheaper to carry than it is right now. Every pound of that £54,000, every year of that seven-year lock-in, every “premium tier” and finance charge and £24,000 exit fee — it’s all markup wrapped around something that simple. Built so a customer base can be fattened, financed, and flipped. None of it is about the phone call. It was never about the phone call.
So we built the opposite. On purpose.
We got sick of pretending it wasn’t happening. So we decided to run a telecoms company the way it should have stayed — and put it in writing as a membershipanyone can join. Here’s the whole deal. There’s no page two.
- One fixed membership price. Zero markup on everything. You pay to be a member. After that, your calls, your numbers, your service — all at cost. We don’t add a margin, because there’s no business to fatten up for sale.
- Every call at cost — and you can check the maths. The price of connecting a UK call isn’t a secret we mark up; it’s the wholesale rate BT charges, a regulated rate agreed by Ofcom — currently about 0.31p a minute to a UK landline and 0.64p to a UK mobile. We pass it straight to you with nothing added. Don’t take our word for it — the full rate card is published here, so “at cost” is a number you can verify, not a promise you have to trust.
- We don’t make a penny whether you make one call or a million. Your usage is genuinely none of our business, because we don’t profit from it. Nobody here has a reason to push you, upsell you, or pad your bill — there’s no one here paid that way.
- No commissions. No sales team working a quota. So the upsell call simply never comes. There’s no one employed to make it.
- No long-term contracts. No hostage-taking.Come whenever you like, leave whenever you like. We’ll port your numbers out for free — no exit fee, no notice period, no “retention offer” that magically appears the moment you try to go.
- No tiny small print. What we say is what you sign. The sales pitch and the contract are the same thing, because there’s no gap to hide a trap in.
- Open, both ways.Bring your existing phones, your PBX, your software — connect it straight up. Or take ours: pre-configured, battle-tested kit, supplied at cost, not rented to you on a seven-year finance noose. Your choice, not ours.
The proof is that we’ll show you the door
A company building itself to be sold cannot do what comes next, because its whole valuation depends on you not being able to. So here it is. If you ever think someone will treat you better — go and find out. We’ll move your numbers for free. Go and look. We think you’ll be back. And if you do leave, tell us why — we’d genuinely like to learn what we could do better.
That’s not a slogan. It’s the one thing the entire industry is built to prevent. Which is rather the point. Independent for sixteen years, and we still answer our own phone. Have a look at how the membership works, see what you’d save with the savings calculator, or browse the numbers.
Move your phones to us. We'll save you money.
